Ryan Harrison, member of the Longines Rising Tennis Stars, defeats Juan Ignacio Chela in Cincinnati!
Nineteen-year-old Ryan Harrison, member of the Longines Rising Tennis Stars, defeated the 23rd ranked player in the world, Juan Ignacio Chela, 6-3, 6-3, yesterday in the first round of the Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati, Ohio to set up a second round match against world #1, Novak Djokovic. Chela is the sixth top 50 player Harrison has defeated this year.
Harrison reached his first two ATP Tour level singles semifinals this summer in Atlanta and Los Angeles. He was the first American teen to reach back-to-back ATP Tour singles semifinals since Andy Roddick in 2002 and the first teen to reach the singles semifinals in Los Angeles since Juan Martin Del Potro in 2008.
Another member of the Longines Rising Tennis Stars, Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov, who received a wild card for the same tournament, reached the second round after defeating the qualified Turkish Marcel Ilhan.
